Extensions Home Care

  • Brush twice daily with a proper extension brush. Be careful not to brush over the weft or beads, starting from the bottom. You can hold the base of the weft with your hand to provide extra support while brushing. Be sure to separate rows (if you have more than one) and brush individually. Failure to do this can create matting at the base.

Oil your ends daily with a professional salon quality oil. Do not put oil near the base of the wefts.

Be sure to secure your hair in a braid or (preferably low) ponytail when sleeping or doing strenuous activity. This will help prevent friction damage and matting. Silk scrunchies are the safest to use on your extension hair. You may also want to wrap your hair with a silk scarf to provide extra protection.

Avoid styling your hair in a way that creates tension on the rows. If it’s uncomfortable, it’s going to cause breakage. Let your stylist know immediately if you experience pulling or discomfort when your hair is down or in a low ponytail/braid.

  • Brush your hair while dry before you shampoo with your proper extension brush.

Use salon quality products only. We recommend using a hydrating shampoo and conditioner duo. If this is too heavy for your natural hair, you can use only on the ends.

When shampooing, be sure to work your shampoo through thoroughly, gently massaging the scalp between each row. It is also important that you are thoroughly rinsing to prevent scalp irritation.

Generously apply conditioner to your ends and work upwards. Keep conditioner below the ears, keeping away from weft and beads. Rinse thoroughly.

After shampooing, use a detangling spray before brushing. Brush from ends moving up, being cautious not to pull on wefts. Brush each row separately to avoid matting.

Dry your hair (at least at the root) no more than 30 minutes after wetting. This will prevent damage and scalp irritation as well as prolong the life of the weft.

  • Heat, sun, tanning beds, salt water, and chlorine will all damage your extension hair. While its not reasonable to avoid all of these at all times, be very mindful of prolonged or repeated exposure. Use protection or avoid when possible. Keeping hair out of water when in pools or hot tubs is best to prevent discoloration and drying.

Sunscreens containing Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) and/or Octocrylene will permanently discolor your extensions. Use a mineral sunscreen to avoid discoloration.

If you use self tanner or spray tan, ensure that your extension hair is covered entirely, exposure will permanently discolor the hair.

Products with high alcohol contents will dry extensions out, use hydrating salon quality products at home.
